<description>Virginia man found guilty of weapons and explosives charges following arrest on Capitol Hill    Washington, D.C. – A 38-year-old Virginia man, Michael Stephen Gorbey, was found guilty on Friday by a Superior Court jury of multiple weapons charges, including possession of explosives and the attempted manufacture or possession of a Weapon of Mass Destruction, U.S. Attorney Jeffrey A. Taylor announced today. The jury found Gorbey guilty of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a convicted Felon; two counts of Carrying a Dangerous Weapon; Possession of an Unregistered Firearm; eight counts of Possession of Unregistered Ammunition; Possessing, Transporting, or Transferring Explosives; and Attempted Manufacture or Possession of a Weapon of Mass Destruction. This case marks the first time that the U.S. Attorney’s Office charged a person with attempting to manufacture or possess a weapon of mass destruction based upon the local District of Columbia statute that was passed in response to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Sentencing is currently set for July 25, 2008, before the Honorable Gregory Jackson, who presided over the trial. At sentencing, the defendant faces over 70 years of incarceration.  </description>

<description>Southeast District man found guilty in the sexual assault, strangulation, and stabbing of his 77-year-old next-door neighbor  Washington, D.C. – A 22-year-old District of Columbia man, Robert Pettus, was found guilty today by a Superior Court jury of the sexual assault and murder of 77-year-old Martha Byrd in 2004, U.S. Attorney Jeffrey A. Taylor announced. Ms. Byrd was the mother of four sons and a grandmother. The defendant was found guilty of multiple felony counts, including four counts of First Degree Felony Murder while Armed and First Degree Sexual Abuse while Armed. The jury also found that, at the time of the murder, Ms. Byrd was especially vulnerable due to her age and physical infirmity. The defendant faces a maximum sentence of life imprisonment without the possibility of release. Sentencing will take place later this year before the Honorable Neal Kravitz. </description>

<description>U.S. Attorney's Office and FBI Close Investigation into Death of Deonte Rawlings  	Washington, D.C. – The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Washington Field Office, announced today that they were closing their seven-month long investigation and will not pursue criminal charges relating to the death of 14-year-old Deonte Rawlings, who died as a result of a fatal shooting by an off-duty member of the Metropolitan Police Department on September 17, 2007. The investigation revealed no evidence to support allegations that the officer committed a crime in shooting Mr. Rawlings. The decision was made after a thorough investigation and a careful review and analysis by experienced investigators and prosecutors of all the evidence. </description>

<description>University professor and Tennessee company indicted for arms export control act violations KNOXVILLE, TN — A federal grand jury in the Eastern District of Tennessee returned an 18-count indictment today charging J. Reece Roth, a Professor Emeritus at The University of Tennessee, and Atmospheric Glow Technologies Inc. (AGT), a Knoxville-based technology company, with conspiring to defraud the U.S. Air Force and disclose restricted U.S. military data about Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), or “drones,” to foreign nationals without first obtaining the required U.S. government license or approval.The indictment was announced today by James R. Dedrick, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Tennessee, and Patrick Rowan, Acting Assistant Attorney General for National Security. Roth, age 70, currently resides in Knoxville, Tennessee. He is anticipated to make his initial court appearance next week before a U.S. Magistrate Judge. </description>
